11/17/2021 - First Student Grilled At School Board Meeting - Click here to print this information

Representatives from First Student attended the DeKalb County School board meeting to answer questions about their bus driver shortage. The School Bus Charter Service is contracted by the district to bus children to and from school in DeKalb, Malta and Cortland. Currently, representatives, of First Student say on a daily basis, 2 full routes are not running and 2 half routes are not running. Board Member Jeremy Olson questioned First Student manager LaDell Cass that First Student doesn't seem to have a clear plan to address the issue. Olson went on to exhort Cass to arrive at the next board meeting with a plan of action. The district has sent out a letter apologizing to parents about the limited bus service. According to the letter, First Student currently has 4 potential bus drivers going thru the hiring process soon. Drivers get paid between 18 and 20 dollars per hour. The part time hours are generally two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon.
