At the recent planning commission meeting the proposed Atlantic town center PUD project with its 500,000 gallon per day sewer plant was withdrawn. A new four building office complex is now being proposed at the corner of Thompson Road and Chincoteague road. This would include a wastewater treatment plant of up to 10,000 gallons per day. This type of operation is referred to as a package plant that is 8.5 feet wide and 12 feet high with underground disposal of treated water. The proposed office complex is expected to use approximately 4000 gallons per day of water that will be stored in a water tower that is 34 feet in diameter and 19 feet high. The Accomack County planning commission approved a special use permit at their meeting on March 12, 2014 after the public hearing by a vote of 7-1 in favor of this project. The planning commission is now operating one member short accounting for the ninth vote.
In other construction news the Accomack County Board of Supervisors approved at its meeting on Wednesday night the expansion of the Accomack County Sheriffs office and jail for a total of $350,000.
