Several boaters had a bit of a scare over the weekend on Lake Madison. The two individuals in a boat just south of the Grandview apartments on Sunday, were standing upright in the boat, traveling at around 10 to 15 miles per hour, when the operator was trying to shut the windshield and the boat hit a wave. The operator lost balance and jerked the steering wheel causing both of the passengers to be tossed from the boat. Officials say the boat may have hit the female passenger, which caused the boat to begin spinning in circles in the water. The operator of the boat was run over with the boat, and suffered cuts on his back from the propeller. The passengers of another boat witnessed the accident and helped the couple out of the water and brought them to the shore. One of the witnesses called Game, Fish and Parks Conservation Officer Brandon Gust who rode out on the lake to get the boat under control. Gust leapt into the boat and was able to bring it to a stop, but it doesnt sound like Gust has any plans of making the leap again any time soon.
No major injuries were sustained in the accident. There is no word on whether or not alcohol was involved in the crash.
