Jaycees Present Proposal for Street Dance to Commission - Click here to print this information

The Madison City Commission met in regular session last night at Madison City Hall.

The commissioners heard from several representatives from the Madison Chapter of the Jaycees regarding their proposal for a street dance to coincide with Crazy Days.

Jaycees Vice President Jason Menholt said the event would also double as a celebration to Madison for winning the Governors Award as the 2007 Large Community of the Year.

Menholt says the Jaycees are doing everything in their power to put together a safe and exciting event.

Not everyone at the meeting was as excited as the Jaycees representatives however. Community member Kelly Johnson posed the question of whether or not this is the kind of event that Madison would like to see for their community.

Johnson says the point he wanted to prove was that the streetdance would promote intoxication and other behaviors that go along with it.

The Madison City Commissioners moved to table the one day malt beverage issue until next weeks meeting when they asked the Jaycees representatives to finalize some security issues as well as issues such as notifying all business that will be in the direct vicinity of the street dance.

The commissioners will hear more on this topic along with others at their next meeting on Monday beginning at 5:30PM at Madison City Hall in Downtown Madison.
