A Luxemburg Democrat is an early entrant in the race to try to unseat Garey Bies in the 1st Assembly District. Pat Veeser announced his intentions at Thursday's meeting of the Door County Democratic Party.

"We came out early to let people know that there is somebody running and that was our objective," says Veeser.

As far as what prompted him to run, the 54-year-old Veeser, a machinist at Paper Converting Machine Company, says he doesn't like the way the government's been taken away from the people. "I'd like to work with the people and negotiate fairly with the people and I'd like to help bring good government back," says Veeser. "It's something I've wanted to do for a while and the timing is right right now."

Bies, a Republican from Sister Bay, has held the 1st District seat since 2000. He defeated Democrat Dick Skare in 2008 and 2010.
