3/2/2012 - Whispering Pines sold at auction

The old Whispering Pines Motel and Restaurant site was sold yesterday at public auction in Accomac. The property, once considered one of the premiere stopping places for travelers on the East Coast went for $28,000.

The current property owner from Pennsylvania owed $35,000 in back taxes.

The new owner's name is David Elliott. Mr. Elliott indicated he would be removing the old buildings, although he did not indicate what his plans for the property were at this time.

The Whispering Pines was built in 1932 by Charles F. Russell and was a family run business for over 40 years. It was sold by the Russell family in 1972 and has had several owners since. In recent years the property has fallen into disrepair.
