5/9/2013 - DCCS Appoint New Staff for the 2013-2014 School Year - |
The Decatur County Community School Corporation Board met last night where they welcomed a new group of educators to their ranks as well as bidding farewell to one of their own, Dr. Mike Wilcox who resigned to accept the superintendent position at Richland-Bean Blossom School Corporation.
One of the new hires announced at the meeting was Dr. Michael Langeavin who has had experience working with the school corporation in the past, WTRE spoke with him after the meeting.
Other hires included;
At North Decatur High School Morgan McIntire in the Art department and Kim Gauck who returns to the corporation as a Special Education teacher.
South Decatur High School Nathaniel Cangany as a Social Studies teacher, Miranda Erk as a Spanish teacher, Angela Greene as a Math teacher, and Jerri Spears as a Family & Consumer Science teacher.
North Decatur Elementary is welcoming Catherine Schmeltz as a Special Education teacher, as well as Allison Smith and Kristen Whipple as classroom teachers.
Willard Rice current assistant principal and athletic director at South Decatur High School will be moving into the position of Corporation Athletic Director, overseeing the athletic departments of the entire school system.
The Board agreed to move Aaron Bruner to the position of Grounds Manager, where he will be in charge of the bulk mowing and lawn equipment at all four school buildings, as well as possible snow removal duties in the future. This new position will be on salary to help deal with the flexible hours required to maintain the grounds. Superintendent Johnny Budd told the board that this position was needed, as currently school janitors struggle to get the mowing duties in during the school day as they often have to stop and return to the building frequently to fulfill their other responsibilities. School Board member Brent Muckerhide stated that he supported the position and hoped that more attention to detail could now take place to make the campuses look superb.
The board also agreed to purchase a new special education bus as well as two new activity buses for the school system. These buses were budgeted for and came in under the budgeted amount.
It was mentioned that the Environmental study being conducted on the old central office location is moving along well, with just one final set of testing needed. Two fuel tanks have been removed from the grounds of the property.
South Decatur Elementary Principal Kara Holdsworth reported that she was very proud of her students performance in the production of their musical last week. The musical sold out both nights.
The elementary schools archery team will be traveling to the national competition Thursday night in Louisville, Kentucky where they will have twenty-four students shooting.
South Decatur High School Principal Jim Jameson was proud to announce the schools Fine Arts Academic team finished the season 6th in the state.
Graduation for the county schools will take place Saturday, June 1st.
