8/7/2018 - Greensburg Board of Works Meeting - Click here to print this information

The Greensburg Board of Works met Monday evening. Sewage and Wastewater Superintendent Jeff Smith submitted, and received approval for, construction payout number 16 to Strand and Associates for $396,797.67. The board approved Task Order 18-03 with Strand and Associates for $49,200 for design and engineering to replace the sewer line from Main Street to the Railroad Bridge. The board also approved Task Order 18-04 with Strand and Associates for $50,200 for engineering services to replace the sanitary force sewer main under Sandcreek. Mr. Smith pointed out that, during the severe weather this spring and summer, Sandcreek's path has shifted and exposed the main. The main will be dug back in both directions and buried in concrete.

Greensburg Police Chief Brendan Bridges requested authorization to purchase a new police vehicle. One vehicle was recently totaled and the expected replacement vehicle has significant mechanical issues that may not be fixable. The insurance company paid $14,591.66 in the settlement. Chief Bridges submitted 2 bids and the board approved the purchase of a 2018 Ford Police Interceptor SUV at an additional cost of $17,233.58. The police department has a line item in its budget for vehicle and equipment replacement, but required the board's approval to move forward. Chief Bridges also updated the board on an armored peacekeeper vehicle that has been made available at no cost by the City of Shelbyville. He reported that about 6 agencies applied for the vehicle. If Greensburg is chosen, the only expenses will be insurance and maintenance. Chief Bridges emphasized that the vehicle would be valuable in any kind of stand-off situation, including assisting in getting people out of a neighborhood in that type of scenario. Chief Bridges also requested, and received, the board's approval to begin the process for a 2nd K-9. He reported that the cost would be about $13,000 with all of the funding coming from grants and donations.

Building Commissioner Kathy Reynolds presented the board with a request from the Decatur County Commissioners to waive all building permit fees for the construction of the new jail with a design of 56,591 square feet. The base fee is $200 with an additional 10 cents per square foot, in this case $5,659.10. The board waived the complete $5,859.10.

Mayor Dan Manus requested that an old city-owned tractor with no roll bar or seat belts be auctioned during the Power of the Past event. The board approved the request.

The board will hold its next meeting on September 4th at 5:00 pm at Greensburg City Hall.
