The Decatur County Board of Zoning Appeals met Thursday evening and considered two petitions. In BZA Petition 2018-11, Joshua Bailey and JMB Gunsmithing requested a renewal of the "conditional use" as provided in the Decatur County Zoning Ordinance 935(2) to continue to sell and repair guns. The property is owned by Sugarhill Properties LLC and is located at 1913 E CR 400 S, Greensburg in Marion Township. Mr. Bailey stated that the business holds a current license from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. He pointed out that the business is subject to ATF inspection at any time. The board approved the renewal for a period of 5 years.

In BZA Petition 2018-12, Brian and Kathleen Wiggins requested a "conditional use" as provided in the Decatur County Zoning Ordance 935(1) to turn an existing structure into living quarters for aging parents. The property is owned by the petitioners and is located at 712 N Iron Mine Road, Westport in Sand Creek Township. The existing structure is 36 by 56 square feet and the petitioners intend to construct a living space of 36 by 24 square feet. The structure will require a septic field. The board approved the petition subject to the condition that only the parents live in the structure. The property will lose "conditional use" at any time the parents no longer live there and would require a renewal of the "conditional use" in 5 years.

The board will hold its next meeting on August 1st at 6:30 pm at the Decatur County Courthouse.
