6/11/2018 - TRAFFIC STOP YIELDS LOADED HANDGUN AND DRUG-RELATED ITEMS - Click here to print this information

On June 10, 2018, approximately 3:58 a.m., Bartholomew County Sheriff's Deputy Dustin Newland observed a vehicle southbound on US 31 commit a traffic violation.

Deputy Newland initiated a traffic stop at US 31 and Bear Lane and confirmed that the driver, Chasity Williams, 33, 301 Clay Street, Edinburgh, had a suspended license.

Sergeant Kris Weisner arrived to assist and K9 Bolt alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from inside the vehicle. Deputies located a loaded handgun, Methamphetamine and drug-related paraphernalia inside the vehicle.

Williams was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of:

Carrying a Handgun without a License
Possession of Methamphetamine and
Possession of Paraphernalia

She has since been released.

All persons are considered innocent unless/until proven guilty in a court of law.
