The Decatur County Area Plan Commission met Wednesday evening and considered one petition. In APC Petition 2018-9, Vacuum Services of Indiana/William Corya petitioned to Rezone 14 acres out of 150.84 acres from an A-1 zoning classification to an I-1 zoning classification to place a storage and office building. The property would also be used to expand and grow the business as needed. The request falls under the Decatur County Ordinance Section 1204-1214. The property is owned by Robbins Homestead LLC and is located at County Road 350W and W State Road 46, Greensburg in Washington Township.
Area Plan Director Krista Duvall informed those in attendance that this petition had gone before a technical review committee to ensure compliance with IDEM, construction design, as well as septic approval by the State Board of Health. The property met all setback requirements and is listed as an area for industrial expansion in the Decatur County Comprehensive Plan.
Several adjoining landowners questioned why that area was identified for possible industrial expansion when the Comprehensive Plan also includes the goal of preserving farmland. They pointed out several other areas already zoned as I-1. They also expressed concern of possible environmental issues like flooding as well as what type of business could be placed on the property. They were ensured that in I-1 zones, retention ponds are put in place to handle water runoff. The commission members pointed out that county ordinance is very specific as to the type of businesses that could be built in I-1 zones.
Prior to the vote, one member was asked to recuse himself from voting and he agreed. The commission members then voted and approved the petition.
The Area Plan Commission will hold its next meeting on July 5th at 7:00 pm at the Decatur County Courthouse.
