The Decatur County Community Schools Board of Education met on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at 6:00 P.M. The meeting was called to order, and guests were welcomed, followed by the approval of the minutes of the May 9th meeting and the approval of claims and payroll order payment.
The approval of a conference to be attended by Bonnie Risinger for the National FCCLA in Atlanta, GA from June 28-July 2, 2018 was approved with a vote of 7-0.
The North Decatur Archery field trip to the NASP World Tournament in Louisville, KY on June 8, 2018, and the North Decatur High School Spring Break trip to France, Switzerland, and Germany from March 14-March 26, 2019 were both approved with a vote of 7-0.
The announcement of Candy Scaggs retirement at the end of the 2017-2018 school year, along with the resignations of Samantha Giesting of North Decatur High School, Kyle Degler of South Decatur High School, and Kristen Whipple of North Decatur Elementary were reported. The terminations of Tony Bell, South Decatur High School Varsity Football Coach RIF, and Bonnie Risinger of South Decatur High School RIF were announced by the Board.
New hires include R. Nicholas Flowers as Special Ed Director, Jennifer Bowles, North Decatur High School Guidance Counselor for the 2018-2019 school year, Jacqueline Fritz, North Decatur High School English for the 2018-2019 school year, James Jarvis, North Decatur High School Science for the 2018-2019 school year, Deidre Laker, North Decatur High School English for the 2018-2019 school year, Celia Colter, South Decatur High School Band for the 20182019 school year, and Garry Sauley, South Decatur High School Varsity Football.
New business included the approval of student handbooks for the 2018-2019 school year, and the approval of Aunt Millie and Prairie Farms as the bread and milk vendors for the 2018-2019 school year.
Dr. Jarrod Burns, Superintendent, gave a report and introduced Sgt. Pat Richards as the new and 3rd school resource officer. At that time, Sgt. Richards stood up and gave a brief introduction of himself to the guests.
Curriculum Director Debbie Reynolds gave updates on 3 Project Lead the Way Training Grants, Bev Thompson as the Bio 101 dual credit course instructor at South Decatur for the 2018-2019 school year, the attendance of a Title Con Conference last week, and the attendance of a 2 day workshop with 28 other teachers in Whiteland, focusing upon the new art and science textbooks and motivating and inspiring students.
The next Decatur County Community Schools Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 6:00 P.M. at the central office.
