On May 12th, Greensburg Police Department Officer Stephen Hershberger initiated a traffic stop near the 134 mile marker on I-74 for a vehicle traveling 89 mph in a 70 mph zone. When he approached the vehicle, he reported that he smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. According to the police report, he also noticed a baggie between the driver's seat and door that contained a green leafy plant material consistent with marijuana. The driver, identified as Tyray Williams, was ordered out of the vehicle and was taken into custody.

Officers Bryan Katterhenry and Jacob Mays arrived to assist. They found a handgun under the driver's seat. When questioned, Williams admitted that everything in the vehicle was his. When he arrived at the police department, Officer Hershberger weighed the marijuana with a weight of about 8.8 grams.

Tyray Williams, 23 of Indianapolis, faces allegations of obstruction of justice and maintaining a common nuisance (both Level 6 felonies); illegal possession of a handgun and driving while suspended (both Class A misdemeanors); and possession of marijuana (a Class B misdemeanor). He was charged in Circuit Court on May 14th.

Under the law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
