The Westport Town Council met Monday evening. The Police Department had 53.25 reserve hours for March with 2 active reserve officers and 1 reserve officer in training. The Department had 10 arrests and 10 citations during March. The Department also provided 6 assists to the Decatur County Sheriff's Department, 5 assists to Child Protective Services, and 3 assists to Animal Control.

Joyce Brindley provided the Main Street Westport report and commended all of the volunteers that have helped with beautification projects for the spring and summer. She also reported that she is filling out grant applications to obtain trash cans for the downtown area.

Bryan Gatewood provided an update on the water project. The town is coordinating with Rachel Runge from Commonwealth Engineers and working with Marsha Comer from USDA Rural Development to prepare to apply for Rural Development and OCRA grants for the project. The next opportunity to apply for grants will take place in November. The town council expects to receive the rate study update from Umbaugh and Associates this week.

Mr. Gatewood reported that all paperwork has been signed to move forward in legally condemning the property at 308 S. Walnut Street. The town clerk sent three registered letters to the property owner with each of the letters being returned as declined. The town clerk found a new address for the property owner and sent another registered letter that came back declined. He also reported that Napoleon State Bank has purchased the former MainSource Bank site as well as the adjoining property that is currently a car wash. Napoleon State Bank intends to combine the lots, using the car wash site as the parking lot. The bank is projected to open in March 2019.

Paperwork has been signed to install a street light at Shady Lane Addition due to several break-in attempts in the area. The council approved updating lighting in the town barn to LED. The materials will cost about $800.00 and Damon Land will provide the labor at no cost.

The council will hold its next meeting on June 11th at 7:00 pm at the Westport Town Hall.
