5/4/2018 - I-74 Traffic shifts Wednesday to north side lanes

DECATUR, FRANKLIN & RIPLEY COUNTIESThe Indiana Department of Transportation plans to shift all traffic to the north side of Interstate 74 next Wednesday (MAY 9) between C.R. 850 East at New Point Exit 143 in Decatur County and State Road 101 at Exit 156 in Ripley County. This traffic pattern will remain in effect for the remainder of the 2018 construction season while contracted crews rebuild the 12.8-mile-long section on the south side of the interstate.
Eastbound motorists will be routed to I-74s inside westbound lane via a median crossover just east of Exit 143. Westbound motorists were shifted to the outside westbound lane last week. A concrete barrier wall has been put in place to separate the east-west 12-foot-wide lanes.
The eastbound rest park located 2 miles east of Batesville will also close Wednesday for the remainder of the construction season.
Milestone is Indianas prime contractor for this $61 million pavement replacement/added travel lanes Next Level project in Decatur, Franklin and Ripley Counties. Its crews will begin breaking and removing pavement on the south side of I-74 within days of the traffic switch.
INDOT officials advise motorist to be alert for striping and other preparatory operations that will take place next Tuesday.
