5/3/2018 - 17-YEAR-OLD, WITH NO LICENSE, DRIVING 72 MPH IN A 45 MPH ZONE - Click here to print this information

On May 2, 2018, approximately 11:12 p.m., Bartholomew County Sheriffs Deputy Sergeant Kris Weisner attempted to stop a northbound vehicle at US 31 and Marketplace Drive for traveling 72 mph in a 45 mph zone.

A short pursuit ensued before the vehicle came to a stop near Driftside Mobile Home Park. The driver, a 17-year old female, Edinburgh, IN, told Sergeant Weisner that she had never obtained a drivers license.

K9 Bolt alerted to the vehicle and approximately 1 ounce of marijuana was located inside.

As Sergeant Weisner attempted to place the female under arrest, a struggle ensued.
Passenger Leroy Conrad, 18, 405 Della Road, Columbus, and a 14-year-old passenger,
Edinburgh, began arguing with Edinburgh PD Officer Hector Mercado who had stopped to
assist. Both passengers had to be restrained.
The female driver was transported to the Detention Center on a preliminary charge of:

-Resisting by fleeing in a vehicle,
-Resisting by physical force,
-Possession of Marijuana,
-Possession of Paraphernalia,
-Reckless Driving,
-Operating without a licenses, and
-Disorderly conduct

The 14-year old passenger was transported to the Detention Center on preliminary charges of:

-Possession of Marijuana,
-Disorderly Conduct, and
-Resisting Law Enforcement

Conrad was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of:

-Possession of Marijuana,
-Disorderly Conduct, and
-Resisting Law Enforcement.

He has since been released.

All persons are considered innocent until/unless proven guilty in a court of law.
