The Decatur County United Fund held its 21st Annual Auction and Dinner recently at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Greensburg.
Executive Director, Joane Cunningham, shared, The Oktoberfest themed auction brought in $80,159 for the Decatur County United Fund. Our campaign is currently at $196,228 or 39% of goal. We need $305,772 to reach goal.
Auctioneers, Aaron Gault and Steve Fortner kept the bidding lively as guests, many of whom were decked out in their lederhosen and dirndls, bid on the many items available. Blake OMara served as the evenings master of ceremonies dressed in the traditional Bavarian outfit. The clerk for the evening was Frank Narwold and the checkout table was facilitated by Mary Lou Davis, Connie Weston, and Teresa Schutte.
Dinner was catered by BS Catering and then bidding started on the 55 silent and 73 live items that were graciously donated or sponsored by local businesses. Throughout the night, those in attendance tried to outbid each other on items such as baseballs autographed by Mike Trout, Albert Pujols and Chris Bryant, a year of car washes, a whitewater rafting trip, several dinners, Cincinnati Dinner Train, Grand Hotel at Mackinac Island, a Cincinnati Reds Scooter Gennett autographed photo, tickets to games and events, household items, and much more.
Cunningham noted, The evening was a lot of fun and many in attendance dressed in traditional Oktoberfest outfits. Those in attendance bid in support of the 17 non-profits providing valuable programs and services to Decatur County residents. The 2018 grantees are Advocates for Children, American Red Cross, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Bread of Life, Carousel Play and Learn Center, Catch A Ride, Community Healthcare Clinic, Decatur County Family YMCA, Decatur
County Youth Baseball, Girl Scouts, Head Start and Human Services, Kids Closet of Decatur County, Legal Aid, New Directions, Our Hospice of Decatur/Shelby, Rural Works of Decatur County, and Turning Point.
A special thank you goes to Coach Stacy Meyer and the Greensburg Community High School Basketball team who setup tables and chairs prior to the event. The North Decatur High School basketball team members came in on Saturday following the event and helped with clean up and re-setting of hall tables. Both teams have helped with set-up and tear-down of the auction for many years and it is greatly appreciated. Cunningham stated.
Donations can still be made to Decatur County United Fund, 108 S. Broadway, Suite 1, Greensburg, Indiana 47240 to help us reach goal.
