The Decatur County Board of Zoning Appeals met Wednesday evening and considered three petitions.

In BZA Petition 2017-23, Kenneth Harrison and H4 Hydrographics LLC requested a conditional use in an A-1 zoning classification to operate a water transfer printing business. Mr. Harrison owns the property located at 2840 W. Taylor Court Greensburg, Washington Township. Mr. Harrison currently does not sell products, but may in the future. He also stated that he is looking for other locations based on the potential growth of the business. The board approved the petition 5-0.

In BZA Petition 2017-24, Eric Peters requested a variance to the required setback from 30 feet to 8 feet to construct a garage on his property located at 726 N. CR 660E Greensburg, Salt Creek Township. It was determined that the setback would actually be about 23 feet at the closest point to adjoining property. The garage, approximately 24 feet by 36 feet, would be a 2 story structure and be on a full, existing foundation. Construction began prior to receiving appropriate permits, but stopped immediately upon notification. Board members expressed concern about the foundation since the previous structure was destroyed in a fire. The board approved the petition 5-0 with the condition that the structure not be used as living quarters and obtaining proper building permits and inspections.

In BZA Petition 2017-25, Leon Boggs, representing The Sign Exchange, requested a permanent special exception to operate a sign business. The property is currently owned by Tim Myer and is located at 3242 S. US Hwy 421 Greensburg, Marion Township. The Sign Exchange is in the process of buying Signs by Myer. The board approved the petition 5-0 on the condition of obtaining a rezone to a B-3 zoning classification from the Decatur County Area Plan Commission.

The board will hold its next meeting on December 6th at 6:30 pm at the Decatur County Courthouse.
