The Greensburg Board of Works met Monday evening. Kathy Reynolds updated the board on a parking issue at 639 W. North St. The discussion centered on allowing parking in an alley that is in the city's right-of-way. The resident and the owner of the adjoining property appeared before the board. The board noted that allowing parking in the requested area violates current city ordinance. The board tabled the request to gain more information before making a decision.

Andy Scholle presented the board with a new survey for an extension of McKee Street right-of-way. The owner of the former American Lifts property has a buyer for the property with the condition of obtaining an easement. Mr. Scholle informed the board that Pace Engineering conducted a survey of the property in 1984, but it was never filed and remains unrecorded. Mr. Scholle conducted a new survey and asked the board to approve the results so that the survey can be properly recorded.

Greensburg Police Chief Brendan Bridges requested, and received, authorization to proceed with the development of a K9 program for use in narcotics investigations. He stated that purchase of a K9 would be fully funded by private donations, including about $2,000 from local businesses.

Fire Chief Steve Garrett received approval to make a job offer to an applicant selected by the board. Chief Garrett also received approval to promote Nick Gauck from probationary Firefighter to 1st Class Firefighter effective October 16th.

Jeff Smith submitted a request for payment of about $345,000 to Strand and Associates. The board approved the request.

Mayor Dan Manus reported that new trash containers are being delivered throughout Greensburg. Residents will receive information regarding pickup dates that may be different than the current schedule. Routes will change the week of October 23rd. Heavy trash pickup will take place the week of October 16th through 20th.

The board will hold its next meeting on November 6th at 5:00 pm at Greensburg City Hall.
