8/8/2017 - Greensburg City Council Meeting - Click here to print this information

The Greensburg City Council met Monday evening. The council approved ordinances pertaining to additional appropriations and city department cash and change funds on the second and final reading. Merrill Smith from Bread of Life invited the council members to tour the facility.

The council approved ordinance 2017-14 (dormant fund) on the first reading. The fund had been used to pay part-time 911 dispatchers. Since the city no longer uses part-time dispatchers, the ordinance moves about $47,000 back in to the city general fund.

Police Chief Brendan Bridges received approval to transfer $4,000 from the debt service account to the new officer clothing account. Chief Bridges also received approval to transfer $15,000 from the debt service account to the overtime budget. He discussed the feasibility of a ride-along program.

The council voted to approve the purchase of trash containers to be used throughout the city. When the containers are received, individual bags will no longer be picked up. The containers should be received in the next 6-8 weeks.

Mayor Dan Manus discussed numerous projects to be considered as part of the Stellar program. The projects vary from improving curbs and sidewalks on Main Street; creating walking trails and dog parks; building a small amphitheater and soccer fields; refreshing the downtown square, including creating a downtown play space in an available building. The council committed up to $2 million to the project over 4-5 years.

The council will hold its next meeting on September 5th at 7:00 pm at Greensburg City Hall.
