6/8/2017 - Decatur County Area Plan Commission meeting - Click here to print this information

The Decatur County Area Plan Commission met Wednesday evening. Don Schilling of the Decatur County Redevelopment Commission requested an amendment to the countys economic development plan. The amendment would allow the Redevelopment Commission to add a project to assist Decatur County Community Schools with up to $92,000 in support of the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics programs. The request is for an amount lower than the 15 percent the RDC could provide for that type of project, but this request would allow some flexibility for additional assistance in the future. The commissioners unanimously approved the request.

Tim Johnson presented the commission with his request to subdivide 5.88 acres of an R-2 zoning classification into 18 buildable lots. The request falls under the Decatur County Subdivision Control Ordinance Section 200-216. The property is owned by Mr. Johnson and is located north of Deer Run Subdivision in Westport, Sandcreek Township. The commission provided preliminary approval to allow Mr. Johnson to have the property redrawn and then return for final commission approval.

The commissioners appointed Paul Stone to the Decatur County Board of Zoning Appeals.

President Jay Hatton updated the commissioners on the status of the County Comprehensive Plan. County Area Plan Director Krista Duvall will be attending each small town meeting to present the County Comprehensive Plan and receive input and approval. Mr. Hatton stressed the importance, at this point, to review all current ordinances and begin to consider updates as well as new ordinances that may be necessary to support the plan.

The commission will hold its next meeting on July 5th at 7:00 pm at the Decatur County Courthouse.
