Opportunity Knocks with Greensburg Ready Program

Education is the key to opportunity in our society and Tom Hunter, Greensburg Community Schools Superintendent, is determined to offer that opportunity to adults in Decatur County. Funded by the Decatur County United Fund, the Greensburg Ready Program is a free educational program designed to teach skills necessary for employment in todays manufacturing industry. The workforce development program is open to Decatur County adults ages 18 and over.

Enrollment is now open for the first session of the Greensburg Ready Program scheduled for August 8th through October 5th, 2017. The program will meet Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm for nine weeks at the Greensburg Community High School Tech Center. Deadline for registration is July 26, 2017 and enrollment will be limited. A high school diploma is required.

The free program will offer adults hands on training in a range of technical skills including engineering, manufacturing and energy science, and will prepare adults for careers in todays manufacturing environment. Instruction will be offered in several areas including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and robotic technology as well as other workplace skills. Upon completion of the nine week course, students will receive a job ready certification. Partnerships developed with local industries will assist graduates with a path to securing a job or increased opportunities for career advancement.

Jobs in manufacturing have changed and the Greensburg Ready Program is a wonderful opportunity for Decatur County adults seeking a career in manufacturing to gain the skills required by employers. For anyone currently working in manufacturing, the program provides an opportunity to continue to build critical skills and a path for advancement, said Tom Hunter, Greensburg School Corporation Superintendent. We are excited to be able to offer this opportunity to our community.

Education is key to helping individuals prepare for manufacturing careers and we were very pleased to be able to provide the funding for the program, said Joane Cunningham, Executive Director of the Decatur County United Fund.
