6/6/2017 - Greensburg City Council Meeting - Click here to print this information

The Greensburg City Council met Monday evening. The council approved ordinances on final reading for the K-9 fund, bike patrol fund as amended in the May meeting, and the fire safety fund. The second reading for an ordinance pertaining to departmental cash change fund was tabled.

The Greensburg Prevention Group addressed the council about revising its budget for the remainder of the year. The Group discovered that, in order to comply with federal law, its director must be a city employee or they will lose funding. Police Chief Brendan Bridges was accepted as the new director and will perform any actions at times outside his regular city duties.

Chief Bridges presented the council with a proposed new wellness program for the department. The council agreed with the plan and authorized the transfer of funds to begin the process. It was noted that the city continues to stay below budget in its fuel costs.

A local resident addressed the council regarding a problem with 3 pit bulls getting loose into an apartment complex and near a playground. The resident discussed several recommendations with the council. It was pointed out that animal control can pick up an animal if it is caught loose, but otherwise would require a warrant. Mayor Dan Manus advised that department heads, along with the city attorney, have determined that the current ordinance is well out of date. A working group has been formed to review plans from other local cities to create a workable plan for Greensburg.

Members were informed that a public meeting will take place on June 29th at 6:00 pm at the Greensburg City Hall Gym for the purpose of discussing expansion plans for the airport. A public hearing will also be held on June 20th at 6:00 pm at Greensburg City Hall to discuss the surface water plant.

The council will hold its next meeting on July 3rd at 7:00 pm at Greensburg City Hall.
