The Greensburg City Council held its monthly meeting Monday evening. The council approved an additional appropriation of $150,000 from Washington Township for its share of the new fire station.
Police Chief Brendan Bridges introduced new officers Matt Terkhorn, who is returning to the GPD, and Eric Lusk and Jacob Mays, recent graduates of the police academy. All of the officers are on solo patrol.
The council approved 5-year tax abatements for GECOM and Mesco due to expansion projects. The GECOM expansion would take place between 2017-2020 and create 30 jobs with an annual payroll increase of approximately $1.5 million. The Mesco expansion would create 8 jobs.
The council appointed Laura Jo Tebbe to the Library board and Melanie Maxwell to the Historical Development Commission.
Philip Deiwert from the Rural Works Employment Program briefed the council on the capabilities of the program. Rural Works helps people with employment training, workforce development, and other work-related obstacles. They provide workshops and assist the unemployed and underemployed. The council will hold its next meeting on May 1st at 7:00 pm at Greensburg City Hall.
