From Decatur County United Fund -
The Decatur County United Fund is partnering with the Greensburg Community School Corporation in a new workforce development initiative, the Greensburg Ready Program. The new project is made possible through a grant received by the Decatur County United Fund from the Indiana Association of United Ways with $30,000 being targeted for the Greensburg Ready Program slated to begin in the fall of 2017.
Designed for adults ages 18 to 30, four sessions will be offered at the Greensburg Community School Corporation Vocational Tech Center during the 2017 2018 school year. Enrollment will be limited to 10 to 12 students each session and classes will meet three evenings per week for nine weeks. Partnerships with local industries will provide employment opportunities for students completing the course while providing employers with qualified personnel.
Careers in engineering, manufacturing and energy science require a wide range of technical skills and the ability to work in a team-based environment. Problem solving through technical application is necessary for jobs today and into the future. Greensburg Ready will focus on an introduction to various manufacturing skills and integrated technology concepts. Individual work stations including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and robotic technology, as well as a focus on quality assurance and workplace skills will prepare students for todays jobs, said Tom Hunter, Superintendent Greensburg Community School Corporation. We are working with local industries to prepare students to enter the workforce with the skill set employers are seeking.
The United Fund is very pleased to be able to make this investment in our community, said Joane Cunningham Executive Director, Decatur County United Fund. Supporting the Greensburg Ready Program works well with our mission to develop and maintain resources to meet human needs. Empowering individuals with the skills necessary for employment in todays marketplace is a huge step in helping families in our community build a more secure future.
While plans are underway for the Greensburg Ready Program, further details including eligibility requirements and enrollment opportunities will be made available at a later date.
