More Information A St. Paul man faces allegations of resisting law enforcement, a level 6 felony and attempted theft, a class A misdemeanor. 28-year old Joseph Fields was charged in Decatur County Circuit Court on March 8th. According to court documents, a Greensburg Police Department officer was dispatched to Speedway for a report of theft. An employee pointed out the suspect as the person that had shoplifted. The store employee advised the officer that there had been multiple incidents with the suspect and requested he be trespassed from the store. After the suspect exited the store, an officer smelled the odor of what he thought to be marijuana coming from the suspect. According to the police report, two males in the store told an officer that they saw the suspect put something in his jacket. At that point, officers told the suspect that a narcotics investigation would be conducted due to the odor of marijuana. At that point, the suspect is alleged to have become uncooperative. An officer conducted a search and uncovered a can of an alcoholic beverage in the suspect's sleeve. The suspect pulled away from the officer and began fleeing on foot northbound on Ireland Street. The suspect turned westbound onto Washington Street, at which point an officer advised the suspect to stop and get on the ground. The officer was able to catch up to the suspect and tackle him to the ground. The suspect was transported to the Decatur County Jail.
