The Greensburg Board of Works held a meeting Monday evening at City Hall. Mark Carman, Vice President of the Fall Festival Committee announced that this years festival will take place on September 15th and 16th, with the parade taking place at 10:00 Saturday morning. Mr. Carman, on behalf of the committee, requested that the square be closed off for the event beginning Thursday evening at 5:00 pm for vendor setup with reopening scheduled as soon as possible after conclusion of the event on Saturday evening. The board granted approval, pending proof of insurance. Brian Wenning requested and received approval for street closures for the On Eagles Wings 5k walk and run on August 28th at 9:00 am. Police Chief Brendan Bridges requested, and received approval, to purchase 7 laptops at a cost of just over $8,800 based on a state bid with Dell. Five of the laptops will go in patrol vehicles, with the other two to be used by newly hired officers. The plan moving forward is to rotate laptops on the same schedule as patrol vehicles. The board granted approval to make an offer for employment of a 20th officer. The police department is implementing, with the boards approval, a new evidence room policy regarding the disposal of found property. The department will make all necessary attempts to identify owners over the course of 90 days. After 90 days, and ensuring there is no further evidence needs, property will be disposed of as listed in appropriate ordinances. The board approved the renewal of the fire contract with Washington Township, as well as the Fire Protection Contract. The board approved making an offer to hire a probationary firefighter.
