The Greensburg City Council held its meeting Monday evening at City Hall. The council approved ordinances for the proposed sewage works revenue bonds and vacation of right-of-way at N. Michigan St. and Memorial Way. The council tabled an ordinance for the second month regarding a proposed change to a one-way alley east of Broadway between Barachel and 10th St. Council members requested additional input from residents that would be affected by the change.
David Fry presented the final report on the Vision Plan, which the council accepted and approved. Council members agreed to compare the plan against the citys comprehensive plan in a future meeting to look for common areas and begin the process of developing partnerships to achieve common goals.
The council received a briefing from Police Chief Brendan Bridges and then approved an ordinance establishing the Community Action Coalition Fund.
Mayor Dan Manus concluded the meeting with a State of the City address. Some of the key areas the mayor mentioned are the low unemployment rate in the city and pay starting to increase in some of the local factories. He did express concern that companies are having difficulty finding sufficient numbers of employees. Mayor Manus expressed his appreciation for the investments companies are making in Greensburg in particular Honda, KB, and Valeo. The three companies have agreed to invest about $75 million dollars and create at least 170 new jobs.
