5/30/2018 - Ex-Detective Faces a Sentence of Probation - Click here to print this information

(Millersville, MD) WNAV -- It's a sentence of probation for a veteran police detective (now former) accused of having sex with a prostitute while on duty.

"The Capital" reports on a plea deal made between Anne Arundel County prosecutors and former detective Brian Housemans defense attorney resulting in a number of charges being dropped.

They were related to solicitation of prostitution and misconduct in office.

In the initial stages of the investigation, prosecutors hoped to bring extortion charges to bear. Those were dropped too as part of the plea deal.

Houseman is sentenced to probation.

He must resign from police force. County police tell WNAV the effective date of his resignation is May 28, 2018.

He is not allowed to work in law enforcement during his probation period.

Online court records indicate trial dates scheduled in early June have now been terminated.

Houseman lives on the Eastern Shore in Caroline County.

Under current laws, since the charges were misdemeanors, he could not be suspended
without pay. Houseman worked without any contact with the public since charges were filed.
The charges date back to incidents from March and April of 2017.
