(Annapolis, MD) WNAV -- If anyone ever wondered what it would look like if there is a major accident on Route 50, that was the scene yesterday.

The deadly crash in the middle of the day Wednesday on Route 50 in Annapolis claimed two lives.

Investigators are trying to figure out why one driver was going the wrong direction in the multi vehicle crash. State Police say 22-year old Laura Ashley Murphy of Salisbury had a one year old baby in her car that was driving west in the eastbound lanes. The baby was taken to Johns Hopkins. His condition is unknown this morning. Ms. Murphy was pronounced deceased at the scene.

State Police say a 66-year-old man from the Cape St. Claire community died from injuries. Hes identified as Robert Skidmore. His vehicle was hit head-on and he was trapped for an extended period. He was medevaced to Shock Trauma and later died.

Officials say the 911 calls started around 1:30 for the vehicle going the wrong way and soon after, the calls were for the deadly collision. A third vehicle involved but the driver who was from Bowie, was not hurt.

The result for drivers in Annapolis is a daytime traffic nightmare that did not end until the usual rush hour.

Some Anne Arundel schools had to delay their dismissal times, cancel activities and provide early dinners for students as the delays lingered late into the afternoon.
