RALEIGH (WJRI) Tomorrow is primary election day across North Carolina. Registered voters will be heading to the polls to cast their ballot on numerous candidates on the federal, state, and local levels. Turnout has been high so far this year through early voting, which ended Saturday. The polls will open at 6:30 tomorrow morning and will close at 7:30 tomorrow night. Contact your local board of elections if you have any questions.

LENOIR (WJRI) The Caldwell County Commissioners are scheduled to meet tonight in regular session. The agenda is relatively light but does contain a couple items for decision by the commissioners, including an approval of documents for a loan modification with Sun Trust. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 at the City/County Chambers in Downtown Lenoir.

MORGANTON (WKVS) The Burke County Board of Education meets tonight and could be voting on a policy of discipline. Theres a new policy that prohibits teachers or principals from spanking or paddling a student. The current policy says that students can receive corporal punishment if the parent or guardian is notified ahead of time. The board has expressed split opinions on this subject. The meeting will be held tonight at 6:00 at the West Concord Street Resource Center in downtown Morganton.

NEWTON (WKVS) The woman who was with her boyfriend during a series of crimes last year that ended with the pair being captured in Catawba County was in court on Friday. 36-year-old Diana Michelle Dayton admitted to 13 charges and was given between 9 and 12 years in prison. Dayton and her boyfriend Michael Bagwell are accused of stealing vehicles and breaking and entering among the charges. Bagwell admitted to his part in the crime spree last week and was sentenced to 12-15 years in prison.

GRANITE FALLS (WJRI) The Granite Falls Budget Committee is scheduled to meet this afternoon to discuss the towns budget for next fiscal year. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:15 and will be held in the Council Room of the Granite Falls Administrative Office.

LENOIR (WJRI) Lenoir Police are investigating the theft of an air conditioner from a church. Sometime Saturday Night or yesterday morning, someone removed the unit from a window at Iglesia Evangelica Emmanuel Church on Connelly Springs Rd. Anyone with information about the crime should contact Lenoir Police at 828-757-2100.

MORGANTON (WKVS) The Burke County Sheriffs Office arrested a man on drug charges last week. 37-year-old Daniel Vandervelde, of Morganton, was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, and trafficking of opium or heroin, after deputies say that they entered a Hildebran home for another reason, and Vandervelde allegedly ran from the house. He was found a short time later.

CATAWBA VALLEY (WKVS) It was a busy week in Criminal Superior Court across Burke, Caldwell, and Catawba Counties last week. Sixty defendants were sentenced last week on felony charges in the court sessions.

MORGANTON (WKVS) Construction crews will be a common site on North Green Street in Morganton for the next couple of weeks. The bridge on North Green street is being resurfaced, and the closure will be only on the weekends between 7am and 6pm.
