2/20/07 - Public Hearing For The Sale of City Property in Iron Mountain - Click here to print this information
A request from Mark Blomquist to purchase the property at 108 S. Stephenson Avenue is moving to a public hearing. The hearing is set for March 12th at 6:30 PM at which time council members take public comment on the proposal. According to information forwarded to the council by Blomquist the property has been appraised at $8,000 and involves four lots, east and adjacent to the city property which houses the police and fire departments. The site plan, according to Blomquist, received peliminary review by the zoning administrator and planning board and all but two concerns are incompliance, which includes an application for zoning variance to corridor access requirements and a special use permit with a final site plan to be approved by the planning board. Water and sewer issues were addressed in the correspondence, with Blomquist noting the project would create 50-full time jobs with over a $1,000,000 million wages with 100 full time constuction jobs. The project has been referred to as a strip mall, so to speak. The next step in the process would be for the city to approve the sale of the property, then the proposal would come before the planning board for its approval, approved to that point by the council then approval of the project. At this point there are hurdles, including approval of the driveway zoning variance, sale of the land, special use permit, city infrastructure improvements on Brown and Fleshiem Streets, securing commitment from tenants, meeting a feasible budget, secure financing, permits and legal agreements. Blomquist closed his correspondence to the city officials by saying the success of the project is linked to positive results and utmost support from the city. The process moves forward with the Public Hearing on March 12th.
