By Wesley Edwards

County Administrator Mike Mason told the Accomack County Board of Supervisors Wednesday night that the new Health Department is approximately 48% complete, that R.H. contracting from a Atlantic is doing the $2 million project which would add approximately 4000 square feet to the Health Department bringing the total to almost 14,000 square feet. The completion date is estimated to be January 2018.

The new public works building is being built by Beauchamp construction at a estimated cost of $578,192. The new building is 3500 square feet and will be located on the new Sawmill Park property. The expected completion date is October 2017. He explained that this building would allow public works to stop paying rent for the location on Highway 13 and that additional storage would be available in the Quonset hut.

Mason also reported that the building known as the veterans building is currently a liability to the County, but the town of Accomack has inquired about this building and that he has arranged a tour for the Mayor who had not yet come back with a proposal. Mason said that he believed they would ask for a gift of the building.
