With the summer travel season underway, the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) anticipates nearly 470,000 vehicles will travel the Bay Bridge this July 4 holiday weekend (Thursday, July 1, through Monday, July 5).

To avoid significant delays this holiday weekend, travel off-peak and Explore the Shore! The best times to travel the Bay Bridge include:
- Thursday, July 1, before 12 noon and after 9 p.m.
- Friday, July 2, before 12 noon and after 10 p.m.
- Saturday, July 3, before 7 a.m. and between 5 and 10 p.m.
- Sunday, July 4, between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. and after 10 p.m.
- Monday, July 5, before 11 a.m. and after 10 p.m.
Stay Alert So No One Gets Hurt!
- Avoid sightseeing when crossing the bridge.
- Stay in your vehicle in the event of stopped traffic/back-ups.
- Devote your full attention to driving it is illegal to text while driving.
- Keep a safe following distance to avoid rear-end collisions and do not change lanes while traveling over bridges.
Make sure your vehicle is road ready -- one disabled vehicle can cause extensive backups.
The posted speed limit for the Bay Bridges westbound span is 45 mph due to ongoing preservation work. During two-way traffic, please use headlights and note the speed limit is reduced to 40 mph.
