3/8/2017 - Marathon County Approves Hiring New Deputy -
More Information Marathon County leaders have approved the hiring of a new sheriffs deputy. The request from the sheriff was approved Wednesday after the sheriff asked to pair the new deputy with a local crisis worker to deal with those having mental health issues in the community. Chief Deputy Chad Billeb says there has been an increase in the number of people, especially juveniles, who are taken to mental health facilities for things like behavioral issues, crisis situations or depression. He says they hope to deliver a better services to them in their homes before it elevates to a higher level. The department is also asking for funding to purchase a van that will carry basic necessities like toothpaste and blankets to help the homeless population. The health and human services committee will review that request at their next meeting.
