5/15/2018 - Ishi Fire Crew Exercises Return for 33rd Year - Click here to print this information

From May 7th through May 10th, 50 inmate fire crews from throughout Northern California participated in the 33rd annual Ishi Fire Crew Exercises in preparation for the upcoming fire season.

The annual Ishi Fire Crew Exercises are the largest in the state.

Among the fire crews that participated in the event was CCCs own Intermountain Agency Conservation Camp.

The event gave the crews the opportunity to be evaluated on safety performance, physical conditioning, and firefighting knowledge.

During the exercise, the fire crews hiked approximately 4 miles into the incident site, constructed fire lines, and deployed fire shelters under simulated emergency conditions.

The event was an outstanding opportunity for the fire crews to put their training to the test and to gear-up both physically and mentally for the ensuing fire season.

CAL FIRE in conjunction with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), as well as the Division of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) operates 39 conservation camps throughout California.

In addition, CAL FIRE, in conjunction with the California Conservation Corps (CCC) operates fire crews with conservation corps members.

The partnership of state agencies, inmates, wards, and corps members provides a force of more than 4,300 trained firefighters; prepared for all types of emergency incident mitigation and resource conservation.
