The Lassen National Forest announced two new district rangers today.

Carol Thornton has been selected to lead the Eagle Lake Ranger District (ELRD) and Russel Nickerson has been selected as the Almanor District Ranger.

We are fortunate to have these two great people take on these critical leadership roles, said Acting Forest Supervisor Ted McArthur, who appointed the two rangers. The Forest will benefit from their many years of diverse work experience and backgrounds.

Thornton comes to the ELRD from the Forest Headquarters in Susanville, where she has served the last five years as the forests watershed program manager.

Prior to that, Thornton worked as a watershed specialist on a special interdisciplinary team serving forests in California and across the west.

She was particularly interested in this position so that she could better see projects to their completion.

Thornton earned a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Oregon and a Master of Science in Hydrology from the University of Nevada, Reno.

She lives in Janesville, California.

Nickerson comes to the Almanor District from the Plumas National Forests Beckwourth Ranger District where he has served as a wildlife biologist for the past 16 years.

He began his Forest Service career in August of 2000 working as a biological science technician for the Pacific Southwest Research Center, Redwood Sciences Lab.

Nickerson, received two associate degrees in Wildlife and Biology, and an associate degree in Liberal Studies from Feather River College in Quincy, California in 1997.

He continued his education and received a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Biology from the University of Montana in Missoula in 2000.

He lives in Quincy, California, with his wife and three boys where he helps coach wrestling and baseball.

Thornton assumed her position on April 8 while Nickerson will begin on May 14.
