5/3/2018 - Accident on SR-70 Results in Major Injuries - Click here to print this information

On May 1st, at approximately 2:32 p.m., 75-year-old Pamela Green was driving her Honda westbound on SR-70 at an unknown rate of speed.

Meanwhile, 62-year-old Guy Varner was driving his GMC westbound on SR-70 at a stated speed of 55 mph.

For reasons unknown, Ms. Green allowed her Honda to cross over the double yellow center line into the eastbound traffic lane, directly in front of Varners GMC.

Mr. Verner swerved in an attempt to avoid the collision, while Ms. Green attempted to re-enter her own lane.

Despite their efforts, the two vehicles still collided.

The collision caused the Honda to come to a rest on the north shoulder of the road.

Meanwhile, the GMC began to spin out. It finally came to rest partially within the west and eastbound traffic lanes. The vehicle then caught fire.

Mr. Varner broke the driver door window and climbed out the opening. He also retrieved his dog from inside the burning vehicle.

At the same time, a passerby stopped to remove Ms. Green from her Honda out of fear of the fire spreading to her vehicle.

Mr. Varner was uninjured during the collision; however, Ms. Green suffered major injuries.
