The victim in this case has been identified as, Anthony Richins, 44 years of age from Reno, NV. Preliminary autopsy results indicate Richins possibly died as a result of a heroin overdose although toxicology results are pending.

The Sheriffs Investigations Unit has determined friends of Richins dumped his body along Highway 70 when Richins suffered a medical event and died after injecting heroin while driving from Reno Nevada to Loyalton, CA.

The other passengers in the vehicle decided to dump Richins along the highway and continued to Loyalton CA. The investigation is ongoing.

****** ORIGINAL STORY ******

On November 11, 2017 at 1600 hrs the Plumas County Sheriffs Dispatch received a report of a deceased subject on the north side of Highway 70 between Vinton and Chilcoot by a passing motorist.

Law enforcement, medical and fire personnel were dispatched to the scene and determined the subject was deceased.

The Plumas County Sheriffs Investigations Unit was called out and processed the body and scene for evidence.

After processing the scene and body, the cause of death could not be determined.

Through the investigation it was determined that the subject had recently been dumped along the highway.

An autopsy was performed on 11/13 to determine the cause and manner of death.

The deceased subject has been identified but the name is being withheld until next of kin has been notified.

The Plumas County Sheriffs Office is requesting anyone who observed suspicious activity on Saturday, November 11th at approx. 4:00 pm along Highway 70 between Chilcoot and Vinton to please contact the Plumas County Sheriffs Office Dispatch at 530-283-6300 or Sheriffs Investigations Unit at 530-283-6363.
