11/6/2017 - Plumas County Board of Supervisors Approve Moratorium on Commercial Cannabis Growing - Click here to print this information

At the Plumas County Board of Supervisors Special Meeting on October 24th, the Board once again discussed commercial cannabis cultivation and the passage of a temporary moratorium on commercially growing in the unincorporated areas of the county.

The meeting was held at the Mineral Building at the Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds, and the room was filled with those wanting to speak during public comment.

The Board listened for more than two hours as Plumas County residents shared their reasons for why they supported or disapproved of commercial growing.

Overall, most of the speakers were in agreeance with the need for a moratorium on commercial cannabis.

The Plumas County Board of Supervisors also believed the moratorium was necessary as they needed more time to finish a satisfactory cannabis ordinance.

The Board ultimately voted unanimously to impose a 45-day moratorium on all commercial cannabis growth.

This included suspending existing commercial cannabis growth and any establishment of new growth sites in the county.

The moratorium can be extended for up to two years time, and the Board plans to use as much time as necessary to establish a satisfactory cannabis ordinance.

The Board will be meeting again in November to review the moratorium.

Then, they will hold another public hearing to extend it.
