11/2/2017 - Public Comment Sought for Possible Beckwourth Peak Recreation Project - Click here to print this information

The Beckwourth Ranger District, Plumas National Forest and the Sierraville Ranger District, Tahoe National Forest are proposing the Beckwourth Peak Recreation Project.

Outdoor enthusiasts from eastern Plumas County brought forward an idea to encourage multi-use recreation on the Plumas and Tahoe National Forests.

Their vision is to use recreation as a way to attract visitors into the area to improve the local economies within the broader region.

Recreation can be used as a tool to drive enthusiasm of an area and to bring in more business that would not typically be present.

Proposed activities include construction of approximately 20 miles of trail in the vicinity of Beckwourth Peak on National Forest System lands.

The forests are seeking input on the proposed trail and additional recreational opportunities within the area.

Specific written comments on the proposed project would be most useful when received by November 6, 2017 so that they can be considered early during project development and analysis.

The Forest Service will consider your scoping comments to help identify issues associated with the project. Submit electronic comments to: comments-pacificsouthwest-plumas-beckwourth@fs.fed.us

Comments submitted electronically must be in plain text (.txt), rich format (.rtf), Word (.doc or .docx), portable document format (.pdf), or an email message.

Please include Beckwourth Peak Project in the subject line.

Written comments may be mailed to: Matthew Jedra, Beckwourth District Ranger and/or Quentin Youngblood, Sierraville District Ranger, c/o Lynée Crawford, Beckwourth Ranger District, 23 Mohawk Road, PO Box 7, Blairsden, CA 96103; by fax 530-836-0493, or delivered in person Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays.
