11/1/2017 - Accident on HWY 44 Results in Major Injuries and the Discovery of Drugs - Click here to print this information

On October 31st 2017 at approximately 2:54 am 57-year-old Larry Ballew was traveling eastbound on SR-44 at an unknown speed.

For reasons unknown at this time, he allowed his vehicle to cross over the westbound lane and onto the shoulder.

Mr. Ballew swerved to the right and crossed over and into the eastbound lane.

Mr Ballew's vehicle overturned multiple time.

Due to Mr. Ballew not wearing his seatbelt, he was ejected from the vehicle.

He was thrown approximately 25 feet in the air and onto a steep ascending embankment.

After landing on the embankment, he rolled down the embankment towards the roadway.

A truck driver came upon the collision and called 911.

The truck driver stayed with Mr. Ballew until CHP units arrived.

During an inventory of Mr. Ballews's vehicle, a large quantity of Marijuana and Methamphetamine was located along with two firearms.

Mr. Ballew sustained major injures and was flown to Renown Medical Center.
