8/9/2017 - Modoc July Complex Fire Update - Click here to print this information

The Modoc July Complex now totals at 83,109 acres and is 91% contained.

Initial attack crews responded to 12 new lightning fires yesterday.

The largest was about 7 acres.

More thunderstorms are expected tonight and tomorrow.

Holdovers from lightning strikes provide potential for new ignitions over the coming days.

The Chalk Fire that started Monday evening in the Northwestern section of the Modoc July Complex is now at 108 acres.

Crews have it lined and continue to improve it.

Fire personnel worked various fires yesterday evening, but it was the last night shift unless existing fire conditions change or new fire activity increase.

Fire suppression repair work is in full swing on both the Cove and Steele fires.

Hand crews, dozers and excavators are being utilized to rehabilitate the fire lines and other areas impacted during firefighting efforts.

The goal is to reduce erosion, and impacts from suppression activities.

The Steele Fire remains at 45,690 acres and 91% contained.

The Rim Rock and Lake fires remain in patrol status and are 100 percent contained.

Initial attack is currently the priority.

The Cove Fire is 100 percent contained and 38,887 acres.

Initial attack remains the priority.
