8/9/2017 - Parker 2 Fire Update... and SMOKEY THE BEAR?
Click here to print this information
The Parker 2 Fire is currently 8079 acres and 30% contained.
Crews were able to capitalize on last nights precipitation to make good progress on the fire.
Hotshot crews worked from the Dry Creek basin east directly along the fires edge, putting in handline and checking for hot spots.
Firefighters worked around the spot fires on the northeast corner to tie them in to the main fire.
They also worked directly on the fires edge in the Wilderness, improving line around the cabins in the Tom Lee Meadows.
They will continue to improve line, mop up, and patrol lines this evening, and maintain staffing near the structures between Deep Creek Road and Granger Canyon.
The voluntary evacuation for this area was lifted this morning. There are currently no evacuations associated with the Parker 2 Fire.
The weather remained dry over most of the fire area today, with cumulus clouds and associated gusty, outflow winds moving in late in the afternoon.
These conditions can be hazardous to firefighters, and crews will pay close attention to ongoing weather reports overnight.
On a happier note, you can join the Fire Crews for a Camp Tour on Thursday, August 10, at 2pm at the Parker 2 Fire Incident Command Post (located at the Rotary Fields in Alturas).
Families are encouraged to bring the kids and learn how Incident Management Teams manage large wildfires and feed and house thousands of firefighters!
Plus, Smokey the Bear will be making a special appearance during the Camp Tour!
If you are attending, please RSVP by calling 530-276-8097 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
