During the Lassen County Board of Supervisors meeting, the Board was asked to revise Chapter 12.25 of Lassen County Code by adopting the most current version of the uniform code for abatement of dangerous buildings through a new ordinance.
Adopting the updated code would allow the building official to abate any public nuisance summarily without notice in the case of an emergency or where life or safety of the public is at risk.
The building official could complete the abatement work himself or could contract with a private party to accomplish the work.
The proposed ordinance would also amend Lassen County Code Chapter 12.15 dealing with the uniform housing code, and would empower a hearing officer to function as the board of appeals for appeals under both uniform codes.
Currently, the hearing officer selected for the position would be either Mr. Dan Howe or Mr. Zamora.
The Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the requests, thereby adopting the ordinance.
During the meeting, the Board was also asked to approve an ordinance that would repeal and replace the entirety of Chapter 12.22 of Lassen County Code that addresses the Board of Appeals.
In essence, the new ordinance would allow for three people with knowledge of the building code to comprise the Board of Appeals.
The members on the Board of Appeals would be appointed by the Board of Supervisors.
In addition, the code would render the decision made by the Board of Appeals final.
The Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the request, thereby adopting the ordinance.
