8/2/2017 - Search for Drowning Victim Called Off At Stampede Reservoir - Click here to print this information

(AP) - The Sierra County Sheriff's Office says an 11-year-old boy believed to have drowned in Stampede Reservoir still hasn't been found.

About 1PM July 10, 2017, the boy and a 14-year-old boy were in a canoe that capsized when wind picked up.

Neither boy was wearing a life vest, according to the sheriff's office.

The 14-year-old was safely retrieved from the water, but the 11-year-old was not seen again after briefly re-surfacing immediately after the capsizing.

Multiple agencies responded to a 911 call to search the lake surface and shoreline, but after days of searching with no success, the search was halted.

Public access to Stampede Reservoir was prohibited during the search, but the recreation area has been reopened.
