The major fire in Modoc County continues to burn Tuesday.

Fire crews worked through the night and made progress on containment lines for both large fires in the Modoc July Complex burning on the Modoc National Forest.

Fire officials now estimate the forest fire has burned more than 61,000 acres.

Now, Modoc County Sheriffs Office issued a mandatory evacuation notice for the Rush Creek Area, Northeast corner of Round Valley, North side of County Road 87, and East side of County Road 90 in Modoc County.

Mandatory road closures are: County Road 87, County Road 90, Rush Creek Loop, and Rush Creek Camp Ground.
Fire officials said the fire behavior remains erratic.

Residents in the area should continue to monitor radio, television and Facebook for updates.

If persons are registered with the Code Red Alert system, it also will issue alerts.

If their area is evacuated a law enforcement person will contact them.

If residents need assistance with animal evacuation, call Animal Control (530) 640-1772.

Residents are reminded to be prepared with essential items such as medications and documents.

A shelter is open at Bieber Memorial Hall at the corner of Veterans and Bridge Street in Bieber, California.
