7/28/2017 - High Desert State Prison and the Camp Grace Program - Click here to print this information

The last week of June marked the end of the five-day enhanced visiting program, Camp Grace, at High Desert State Prison.

The program allowed the children of inmates to spend time with their fathers in order to strengthen family bonds and encourage offender rehabilitation.

The program is presented by the Place4Grace and California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR).

During the days, children and their dads spent quality time together creating murals, musical instruments and family crest artwork, and participating in games.

Then, during the evenings, the children would leave HDSP to participate in group activities with Place4Grace staff and community volunteers.

We at the Sierra Radio net Newsroom were invited to attend the final day of Camp Grace. The children presented their creative murals and family crests alongside their dads.

In addition, children, fathers, and some staff participated in the games and dancing. Finally, a group birthday party was held to celebrate the birthdays missed throughout the year.

The day was filled with fun activities that were enjoyed by both parents and children alike.

Plus, it presented the opportunity for the children to spend time with their fathers.

The program was highly successful, and Camp Grace will be returning to HDSP again next year.
