6/6/2017 - Reach the Peak Hike-a-Thon Scheduled For Late July - Click here to print this information

The inaugural "Reach the Peak Hike-a-Thon" is planed for July 30th in Lassen Volcanic National Park.

The hike to the top of Lassen Peak will benefit programs in the park, and provide welcome relief from hot summer temperatures in the valley below.

The excursion is being organized by the Lassen Park Foundation, with help from Under The Sun Events.

It's a five mile round-trip walk to the 10,463' summit of Lassen Peak along the Lassen Peak trail.

It's a moderate to strenuous route, with hikers encouraged to make the trek at their own pace.

Snacks and water will be provided at the trail head from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

T-shirts and commemorative patches will be handed out to all participants.

The cost is $50 for adults, $20 for youth and free for those under 12.

Some hikers are even collecting pledges on how far up the peak they hike to donate to the cause.

The Lassen Park Foundation is non profit organization formed to support Lassen Volcanic National Park, including its Youth Camping Program which underwrites camping trips to the national park for groups of underserved kids.
