3/31/2009 - Sergeant Bluff Luton To Join MRAC In 2010 - Click here to print this information

Along with Sheldon leaving the Lakes Conference to join the Siouxland for the 2009-2010 school year and Hartley Melvin Sanborn leaving the Siouxland for the War Eagle for the 2009-2010 school year there are other changes that will alter the conference landscape in northwest Iowa.

Remsen Union will also join the War Eagle for the coming school year. Another change will be Sergeant Bluff Luton leaving the War Eagle in the fall of 2010. The application for SB-L was approved by superintendents representing Current Missouri River Activities Conference high schools of Sioux City East, North, West and Bishop Heelan along with Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson. The Warriors will compete in the War Eagle this coming school year.

One of the main reasons for the switch in conference affiliation according to administrators were travel time and cost as playing in the MRAC would provide several road games each year right in Sioux City.

While 447 students currently attend Sergeant Bluff Luton less than 100 attend high school at fellow War Eagle members Spalding Catholic. SB-L is the only Class 3A school in the conference. Other members of the conference this coming school year will include new additions Hartley Melvin Sanborn and Remsen Union along with current members Hinton, Unity, South O'Brien, Marcus Meriden Cleghorn, Gehlen Catholic in Le Mars, West Sioux, Remsen St. Marys and Akron Westfield.

SB-L applied for membership in the Lakes Conference in 2007 but that application was voted down on a 5-4 vote.
